This is the second level course after the Ocean diver. Once qualified as an sports diver, you can participate in dives where the depth does not exceed 35m. This can include undertaking mandatory decompression stops. This BSAC level is the equivalent to the PADI Advanced Open Water and Rescue diver courses. This level incorporates first aid and rescue skills as well as the foundations of Dive marshalling skills.
The training program consists of three sections: lectures, pool work and open-water dives. All the details will be explained to you once you enrol in the course.
- Introduction to sports diver training
- Diver rescue
- Equipment and techniques
- Deeper diving
- Air planning and systems
- Going diving
- Assistant dive marshall (dry practical)
The only formal lesson covers rescue skills. However it is recommended to practice with the new equipment introduced in the course.
Five open water dives under instruction must be logged which must have a duration of at least 120 minutes.
Once you have achieved this level you may enrol in the "Instructor Foundation Course" and become an assistant instructor.
